Silanna plans own USB-PD controller, wall socket design
A USB-PD chip and wall socket design being developed by Silanna semiconductor has the potential to make power chargers obsolete

Power chip developer Silanna Semiconductor is developing its own controller chip for the USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) protocol and working on a USB charger design that will fit into an existing wall outlet

Having its own USB-PD controller chip will put the company in competition with Infineon who’s Cypress chip is widely used, as well as Chinese supplier Weltrends.

“We have a future roadmap to offer our own PD controller for end to end,” said Ahsan Zaman director of marketing for AC-DC at Silanna. “We really think we will have something to demonstrate by the end of the year for customers.”
